Day 8 – Puenta la Reina to Estella

Distance 14 miles. 6 hours

Today was a bit longer than planned because we didn’t know our room last night was just before the entire town so it added another half mile today. The path has a few assents so it slowed us.  Also we took a few breaks for snacks.

A couple of things to note for today. Puenta la Reina is a nice very Spanish town I wish we would have looked for a place in the city center to stay instead of on edge like we did.  The other thing to note is a definite increase in pilgrims including many singles both men and women.

I’m posting pictures tonight without too much explanation because we have a big day tomorrow and we need rest. There is no order necessarily. Keep in mind not all villages are post card material and many are just normal places with normal houses.

First though is this picture. We literally came around a corner on the path and this village appeared.

Ciraucui
Some have nice little plazas
In the nice postcard type towns the homes were well maintained.
We liked this house on a hillside with an awesome view.
Churches were open in Puenta la Reina and pretty much nowhere else. There was another church 2 blocks away that looked identical. Iglesia y Convento Sancti Spiritus
Buen Camino,Buen Camino… It’s the greeting of the Camino and we hear it 100 times a day, really 100 times a day. Notice the Camino marker ahead – it is very hard to get lost.
In the small villages the Camino took us through some narrow streets.

We had a private room in this place “Estella Rooms”. It was inexpensive, modern and clean. The auto-checkin was a bit interesting. This is the old town area. Away from this – not so nice.
