Our Camino officially begins…. Well it began weeks ago but according to the official rules we only needed to start in Sarria, the city just before Barbadelo. Now we must get two stamps a day on our credential, one in the morning and one at night, to show we made progress by walking the required 100km.
We spent a couple of hours in Sarria trying to find the best place to get our Sarria stamp. The internet said to go to the pilgrim office at a church so we went there – church closed. So we went to the tourist office location – no tourist office. Then we went to another church – church closed. Finally we went to a store selling pilgrim gear and the lady stamped our credentials. On the way out of Sarria we stopped at the monastery albergue and got one more stamp. We are pretty sure we are now marked officially as having entered Sarria.
We arrived in Barbadelo at 2PM, a location you really can’t call a town. There are about 10 buildings and one is our place for the night. The room is warm and dry and they have a restaurant and a bar so we are good for the night. That said, at 2:30 it started pouring rain. The pilgrims still out walking started coming in soaking wet – the weather report said it was just partly cloudy.
