Day 7 – Vila Nova de Cerveira (Portugal) – Tui (Spain)

Espana! We made it to Spain finally. Although we are in the first city on the border the change is noticable. Hard to explain here what’s different but we like Spain.

We took an off Camino route again for 5 miles of our 10 mile day. Yes if you are keeping track only 10.41 miles.

On our last Camino we carried two stones with us to leave at the Cruz de Fero. There is no spot like that on this route but Ben and Noah painted two stones for us and we carried them from home and across Portugal. As we crossed the border bridge and reached the Spain/Portugal border we threw the stones into the river below. It was our symbolic jester of leaving our burdens behind. Thanks Ben and Noah! I would have taken a picture but I was afraid of dropping my phone in the river.

Look for these on the beach someday.
Walk across to Spain!
I really don’t like these bridge crossings.
Leaving our hotel in Portugal
5 miles like this. Very nice.
There is a fortress in Portugal just before the border. You have to enter and exit the fortress.
Entry to the fortress.
The exit is through a very old tunnel. Super cool.
Very dark.
Last city in Portugal. Big tourist trap.
Half Spanish.
