Day 1 – Porto(Matosinhos) to Vila do Conde

The first Camino day finally arrived and just like the start of our first Camino the weather is less than perfect – light rain. Oh well this time we are more prepared.

We chose to start on the outskirts of Porto in Matosinhos because it would have taken a half a day to walk out of Porto and not much to see. The Metro got us to our starting spot around 9:30. By the time we got to Matosinhos the rain had stopped and we were all set for a nice day of walking.

But… It was a long day of walking. 14.65 miles and over 7 hours. That’s a bit much for a first day. Tomorrow will be much shorter.

I’m just going to post a bunch of pictures below. If you ask me where they are I will say Portugal between Matosinhos and Vila do Conde.

Crossing the river at the start of our Camino
Ocean! Finally, now walk north
So many people on the Camino
We walked on boardwalks for over 12 miles
Many,many beach scenes like this.
Beautiful coves and beaches
First Camino pilgrims
I had to touch the water and it’s cold
We had to take an unplanned detour due to construction. It was a bit remote and had no signs.
Small locked church
A mile or two walking
in a town and not the beach
Santa Clara aquaduct in Vila do Conde
