Day 40 – Cacabelos to La Portela de Valcarce

We have finished walking for the day and it is now early Sunday evening. That means we have just one more weekend left on the Camino. Wow – we will start week 7 on Wednesday.

The uphill climb started today and will really start and end tomorrow over the last major mountain range.  Weather for tomorrow’s climb was always a concern since rain and/or snow would be awful. Thankfully the weather was good today and tomorrow looks good also.

Today’s walk was mixed with lots of trails near the road. There were a few highlights – pictures below.

Sometimes Janice was way bahhh… back.

The first major city we hit today was Villafranca del Biezo and it was a really nice small town. It is actually the 200km point for the bike Camino folks so that might be why the town had so many restaurants and places to stay since bike people would typically arrive, stay the night and then begin in the morning.

Villafranca del Biezo.
The bike people are probably happy to see this starting point.
Much of today looked like this. It was safer than it looks.
Some nice spots also. It got warm after this and the jackets came off.
