Day 39 – Ponferrada to Cacabelos

We are now starting to move into grape vine country again and soon into the mountains on Monday.  The weather was threatening to rain all morning but we made it into Cacabelos dry. The next few days the weather looks good and next weekend might even hit 80.

The mountains we crossed last Tuesday and Wednesday are apparently  getting hit hard with snow so we made it through that part just in time. Some people we spoke with today told us they struggled through the snow.

Leaving Ponferrada and the snow in the mountains. So happy we missed that.
A spot for our snack – a closed and locked church.
Another locked church just out of Ponferrada.
As I mentioned yesterday some parts of the Camino are just normal places.

There are some rules on the Camino. To get a compostela in Santiago you must walk the last 100km or bike ride the last 200km. You also must go in chronological and geographical order – which we did. We will reach the 100km spot on Wednesday and once there we need two stamps per day as evidence we didn’t drive or get a ride.  Here you see the marker near the 200km point and sure enough we saw more bike riders.

We have no idea why the boots are here but you see stuff like this every so often.
When Janice leads she walks fast!
Vines are everywhere all of a sudden.
Just a nice spot along the way.
They don’t tear down many of the deteriorating structures.
