Day 35 – Rabanal del Camino to Foncebadon

It was a short walk today from Rabanal del Camino to Foncebadon so we left a bit late and got to Foncebadon around 11.  Leaving Rabanal del Camino we passed a monastery church.  The monks have a Gregorian chant there every evening at 7PM and we wanted to attend except the monks had to leave last night and did not have the chant so we missed out.

Monastery church. No chanting the day after Easter so we missed out.

We dropped off our backpacks at our room in Foncebadon and then we continued uphill for another mile and a half to Cruz de Ferro. If you know the story of the Camino you know Cruz de Ferro is a major stop to leave your stone at the cross and unload ones burdens.

We have been carrying our two stones since we left.  They were painted by our grandchildren and we placed them near the foot of the cross in a spot where they won’t be walked on.  Also, we have been carrying a special religious prayer and medallion that belonged  to Bubba. We placed it at the cross for a moment and then picked it up ( we left the stones but NOT Bubba’s medallion).

It is not quite the same as seen in the movie “The Way” but still a place that brings out strong emotions.
Don’t worry – Bubba’s medallion is coming home.
Some people toss their stones but we wanted to place ours in a good place.
Janice is standing near where we placed the stones.
Janice is trying to read a prayer out loud.
