Day 34 – Astorga to Rabanal del Camino

Nothing too exciting today except we are finally out of the flat country and seeing hills again. It was slightly uphill all day and mostly the Camino was away from the road. It was quiet and a big change from the city noises we were in all last week.

Tomorrow we pass Cruz de Ferro, the large Crucifix on the Camino where most people leave the stone they have been carrying. It is a gesture of leaving one’s burdens and moving on in life.

Passing through Murias de Rechvaldo. Jackets came off quickly after this.
Entering Santa Catalina de Somoza.
A local woman maintaining the flowers on the path into town.
Messages like this appear from time to time.
In Spain these are the palms from Palm Sunday. They were in many doors.
The countryside was beautiful today.
Stork nests in one of the small towns along the way.
People weave crosses into the fence along the path into Rabanal del Camino.
