Day 25, 26 – Ledigos to Sahagun (halfway point!)

It is Saturday and we made it halfway! We will stay in Sahagun until Monday morning.

This is the end of our fourth week of the trip and it feels great to be here. Sahagun was always a major goal not only because it is halfway but also we now have just two and a half weeks left on the Camino.  We might make it!

We never saw pictures of this spot before. Nice to see it as a new experience.
We made a video of both of us walking through but it won’t upload.

Now we are going to take a week off in Leon and Astorga before starting out to the finish. No walking for a week.  So… Leon is 40 miles away and we will take the train there on Monday and then on Thursday take a bus to Astorga.  We cut out about 70 miles of the Camino but that was always our intent.  It also means we leave the meseta, the flat land of Spain, when we leave Astorga.  It is a pretty common strategy for people walking the Camino to pass part of this area since it is so flat and there is not much to see. We walked about 60 miles of the meseta and that’s enough.

It is 8PM and we are waiting for dinner seating to open at 8:30PM.

It is Semana Santa week in Spain and that is a big deal.  Tomorrow we will attend Mass on Palm Sunday and then watch the processions in the streets.

The procession is just outside our room. They process very slowly.
Semana procession items in a small museum.
These floats are huge and heavy.
Various clackers for Holy Thursday.
The Camino passes under this arch to leave Sahagun.
It is Monday
We are waiting for the 8:34AM train to Leon.
