We left Hornillos del Camino at 8:30AM a bit later than we wanted to. It was 24 degrees at 7:30 so we waited until it warmed up to 28.
Last night at La Casa del Abuelo was very nice. It is a house that really is owned and run by an abuela and abuelo. They have lived their whole life in this small town providing food and shelter to pilgrims. At dinner last night we were joined by a German/Swedish couple and the owners sat in the very small dining area carrying for the few guests that chose to have dinner at their house. It was a warm and memorable night.
There are good days and better days on the Camino. Today was a better day. The next town we would come to is Hontanas, a 7 mile walk. That might sound far but actually works out perfectly since the town arrives right at lunch time. So we stopped for an excellent lunch of dos cafes con leche and a Spanish tortilla. Additionally, the scenery today was stunning the whole day.
We saw more people on the Camino than we have ever seen. At lunch we spoke with a young Belgium couple and they explained why. Spring break has started all over Europe, probably everywhere. So people are using that time to walk a week or two on the Camino. Also we noticed that more albergues and cafes are starting to open – the season is starting!
