Day 17, 18, 19 – Burgos (rest)

Burgos is a very nice city. We are staying close to the Cathedral and a vibrant city center. Since we arrived a day early we have had plenty of time to sight see. I’ll keep this post short on words and fill it with pictures. Oh yes… it’s cold and has snowed lightly all weekend. Good news though, we start walking the Camino tomorrow and the weather looks good.

The Cathedral.
Tall and beautiful.
Burgos from above.
The local Church we went to Mass in this morning. Reredos carved in wood.

After Mass we went to several museums but this one, Museo del Retablo, is very special. All over Spain there are old, very old churches that are falling apart and even abandoned. These churches, some hundreds of years old, have priceless art. This museum rescues the art and preserves it here.

Reredos walls. Some from the 1500’s
They had dozens of reredos walls. Some carved and some painted.
500 year old carvings.

After the museum we walked towards the cathedral and there were bands in the streets moving towards one of the plazas so we followed. I have video but it will not post.

We never found out why these bands were playing.
There were 6 bands in the plaza and quite a buzz in the crowd.
Younger band.
Beautiful walkway on the way back to our room.
