Day 12 – Naverette (rest day)

It’s almost the end of our rest day and we are looking forward to getting back on the Camino tomorrow headed for Najera.  Last night we went to the 7:30PM Mass and it was really nice. The Church, Iglesia Santa Maria de la Asuncion, was beautiful.  It’s amazing that they started construction 1553 and finished in 1643.  That’s dedication!

It felt special to be here.

At the end of Mass the priest called the pilgrims forward for a special blessing.  He then came down from the Sanctuary and gave each of us a prayer card and asked where we were from.

These moments reenergize us.

To our surprise at Mass, sitting in front of us, was the couple from England we met and had dinner with way back on day 2.  We were sure  that they would be much farther along by now.  After Mass we spoke and laughed about our collective Camino aches and pains.  Maybe we will see them down the Camino again but who knows.

Prayer card for St. James. The priest was proud to also show where the St. James Statue was way up high in the church.

Dinner was great last night. We did our research before we came and we knew we wanted to try this place.  So far the best of all meals. Believe me – this is not a normal evening meal for us and just a special occasion.

It was 9PM so we were early! We ended dinner at 10:45pm.
Filet with cauliflower.
Stairs to our room.
Front of the Church.
Streets at 3PM are pretty empty.
