Day 3 – Roncesvalles to Espinal.

Distance 4 miles – easy

The lights go on at the Roncesvalles albergue at 6:30 AM with Beatles songs over the speakers. The rules are that everyone must leave at or before 8am.  The sun didn’t come up until 7am and when it did we were pretty disheartened to see mist/rain and 30 degrees outside. Since we were only going 4 miles we were in no hurry to leave the restaurant and walk. The others though we’re scrambling to leave since everyone else was going 12-20+ miles.

Everyone takes a picture with this sign.

We had to put on our rain gear again but today the Camino is all downhill through the country and woods. Even though yesterday tested our will, the serenity of today’s path lifted our spirits. Plus we were dry and dressed warmer.

Leaving Roncesvalles – Quiet and peaceful.

Seeing such a nice path helped us forget yesterday.

A lot like this all day.

There are plenty of religious symbols.

Info was in Spanish.

Only one small village before our destination. This is Burguete where Ernest Hemingway stayed.

Very quiet and well maintained.
Camino mud. Not everywhere but there is some.
We almost missed this turn.

It was all downhill today so that was great. The mist and rain never amounted to much and overall the best day so far on the Camino.

Espinal is just around the corner. It’s only 12 noon.

Tonight we are throwing out some stuff to lighten our backpacks.
