I think we over prepared or maybe didn’t prepare enough! In any case we have now checked all the travel requirements, trained with filled backpacks, downloaded every app, booked everything we could book and now what? Just wait I guess….
We are checking the official Camino site every day now to see how many pilgrims have arrived (today 237 pilgrims!). Now we can start looking at the weather with some certainty, maybe not for rain but for temperature. Historically this time of year can be hit or miss for snow! It looks like now we will get rain and clouds with pretty good hiking temperatures. Our backpack weight went over our target! So we dumped everything out on the floor, weighed everything and made some choices. Still too heavy! Ok fine… let’s go with this weight and throw stuff away in Spain or just diet now and lose 5 lbs. in a week – yeah right!

Today’s training was maybe the last. We finally have a California day similar to what we might get in Spain so we went out for a quick 5 mile walk with 90% filled backpacks. Map-my-ride says we climbed and dropped about 1400 feet. We are trying to walk at Camino pace but we are still walking too fast!

Covid, War and other disruptions
It seems like whenever we travel there is something going on in the world that causes us to be concerned. Now it’s the terrible war in Ukraine. We have traveled before during conflicts and we know there is always a reason to be concerned. Several friends and family have said don’t go and other’s have said go. We are going! The best we can do is offer part of our Camino up for those suffering and pray that our Camino in someway relieves the wants of others.
Post’s and Titles
Of all the weird things to think about… But that’s what happens when there is a week to go before we leave. I think what I will do is just title every post with the day number and the location we slept at. We have quite a few 2 night stayovers and Easter week will be in three separate cities. In any case I’ll probably change my mind several times! Stay tuned…
