Day 9 – drive to Poland

Just a story today no pictures. Head cold is much worse but we had to drive 300 miles. Getting outside helps me feel better. The freeways are really nice and there are pullout restaurants and gas spots frequently.

Looking back on this it’s sort of funny now

So remember I am writing this 2 days since it happened and I’m now mostly better…..

That said, as we were driving to Poland we had this idea.  Get to Poland, drop off bags at the hotel and get medical clinic help. A great idea we thought since we have international health care insurance.

We called ahead to the hotel and they said a hospital is just down road.  Bags dropped off and I am now looking forward to getting help.  The hospital as it turns out is a collection of communist looking drab buildings and no signs where to go. That alone should have been a warning sign.

Now it gets worse

Driving in circles at the hospital I decided to make a u-turn and I hit a curb. Instantly the tire was torn to pieces and I was driving on a rim – still no idea which building to enter to get help.

Damm!

Struggling to drive I made it to a dirt lot parked the car and we walked around until finding a door that looked like the emergency room.

Found the emergency room.

OMG – a sad looking dark space, sick people all over with the line of sick people down the hall! I managed to get to the entry desk person and I showed her my health insurance and expected better times ahead. No chance – the lady looked at my insurance, asked her colleague a question and then told me she had no idea what I handed her.  I asked if I could see a doctor today and she said – no- come back tomorrow.

Screw it.

I’ll just go fix the tire and find a pharmacy. While I was digging out the spare, in a dirt lot, Janice was calling every phone number europcar gave us for help. Turns out no help from Europcar. They said take the car back to Prague and get a new car.

Screw it again.

Spare tire on and we found a pharmacy. I wanted the Theraflu and the pharmacist said some other stuff was better. The medicine didn’t help and after googling the ingredients it is mostly aspirin. Turns out my xyzal is all ever needed and that would have been nice to know 2 days ago!

We will see Aushwitz tomorrow and deal with the tire after that!
