Drive to Kolačkov, Slovakia

We are hoping that this will be the happiest part of our trip. Kolačkov is the small village where my grandmother, my mother’s mother, was born in 1901. This picture is from google. I will use our pictures once we get there.

In 1928 Grandma, Bubba, came to the US with Grandpa and two children, Uncle Mike, Aunt Mary, as she would say – “On the boat”. There are still relatives of ours living in Kolačkov. My first cousin once removed, who lives in the US now, was able to connect us with those relatives still living in Kolačkov! As far as we know no descendant children from Bubba’s family tree have been back to “the old country” to visit.

We will attend Mass on Sunday at the Church where Bubba and Grandpa were baptized and then married. This photo is from google – I will attach the real picture when we get there. Built in the 1300’s and still there!

Afterwards we will meet with my cousin’s niece and nephew (AI says they would be second cousins once removed). How great is this – almost 100 years after Bubba left we get to see her village, go to her church and meet family members which we only assumed existed!
